We are pleased to announce the first Well Hung Painting Prize, in partnership with Great Art.
The prize aims to highlight exciting contemporary painting and support emerging artists working today.
Submissions are free and open to UK-based painters, with entries made directly through Instagram.
Awards
Shortlisted Artists will have their work exhibited this summer at our gallery space on Hoxton Street.
From the exhibition, the winning artist will be awarded a fully-funded Solo exhibition at Well Hung Gallery in 2027 and a £500 GreatArt Materials voucher.
Two runner-ups will be awarded £200 Great Art materials bundle and a £200 voucher for Well Hung Framing.
An external panel of judges will make be invited to select the prize winner.
How to Enter
To submit a work:
- Post the painting you wish to enter on Instagram.
- Tag @wellhunguk in your post.
- Add the hashtag #WHpaintingprize.
- Follow @wellhunguk.
Deadline for entries is Sunday 10th May at 23:59.
Terms & Conditions
- – Applicants must be based in the UK.
- – Artists that have exhibited with Well Hung previously are not permitted to enter.
- – Only paintings may be submitted.
- – Works must be ready to hang.
- – Maximum size: 80 × 80 cm (including frame). Due to the scale of the gallery space, smaller works are encouraged.
- – Submitted works must be currently available and free to exhibit during the exhibition period (9th July – 23rd August).
- – All selected works must be available for sale during the exhibition.
- – Well Hung Gallery retains 50% commission on all sales.
- – Artists are responsible for delivery of selected works and collection of unsold works following the exhibition.
- – Artists submitting work should consider shipping requirements when entering, as all transport arrangements are the responsibility of the artist.
FAQs
Can I submit more than one artwork?
Yes. Artists may submit as many paintings as they wish, however only one work per artist will be selected for exhibition.
Can I submit a work that has already been exhibited?
Yes, provided the work is currently available and free to exhibit during the exhibition period.
Can I submit work that is not yet finished?
No. Submitted works should be completed and ready to hang.
Do I need to pay an entry fee?
No. Submission to the Well Hung Painting Prize is free.
Do I need to deliver the work in person?
Artists are responsible for arranging delivery of selected works to the gallery and collection of unsold works after the exhibition. Artists submitting work should consider shipping requirements when entering.
Can I submit work if I live outside the UK?
No. The prize is open to UK-based artists only.
How will shortlisted artists be contacted?
Shortlisted artists will be contacted directly via Instagram and asked to provide further details about their work.
Do I need a public Instagram account?
Yes. Your account must be public so that we can view your submission.
What happens if my work sells?
Well Hung Gallery retains 50% commission on all sales made during the exhibition.
Can I submit multiple artworks in one Instagram post?
Please submit one artwork per post. If submitting multiple works, each piece should be posted separately using the prize hashtag.
