Bio
Copyright is a UK-based contemporary artist best known for his distinctive portraits that blend graffiti, stencil work and fine art. Working across spray paint, acrylic, and traditional brushwork, he creates bold, emotionally charged pieces that explore identity, symbolism and modern ideals of beauty. His work often features powerful female figures layered with rich colour, bold linework and symbolic imagery — from flowers and butterflies to elements drawn from mythology and popular culture. These themes are brought to life through a mix of clean stencilling and painterly mark-making, giving his work both edge and elegance. Originally trained in photography and video, Copyright began experimenting with stencils made from his own photographs. These early experiments evolved into murals and eventually a full-time art practice that spans gallery walls and street corners alike. Though rooted in graffiti and urban art, his work has found international recognition, with solo exhibitions in London, Tokyo, and Chicago. Copyright’s paintings have been featured in Harper’s Bazaar and Reload Magazine, and his collectors include well-known public figures and art lovers alike. Now based in Bristol, he continues to evolve his practice while occasionally collaborating with his wife, artist Gemma Compton, on joint projects like their show Union. At the heart of his work is a deep curiosity about how we see beauty, strength, and symbolism in the modern world — and how art can capture the balance between raw emotion and refined technique.
