Elizabeth Power is a painter based in Hastings, UK, whose work is led by colour, light and the possibility of escape. Moving between interiors, still lifes, plants, windows, garden scenes and coastal views, her paintings transform familiar places into heightened compositions that feel warm, playful and slightly transported.

Power’s work balances observation with invention. Often working from her own photographs, she uses the image as a starting point rather than a strict record, reshaping scenes through flattened colour, simplified form, visible brushwork and playful shifts in scale and perspective. Her paintings are rich with coral pinks, deep greens, cool blues and warm yellows, creating a visual language that feels optimistic without losing its sense of stillness.

Strong sunlight and shadow frequently give structure to her work. Blinds, windows, plants, furniture and architectural edges become compositional anchors, while shadows stretch across floors, walls and objects. In these moments, light is not just atmosphere; it helps define the picture plane and gives ordinary rooms, still lifes and views a quiet sense of pause and clarity.

Power has described her paintings as a form of escapism, using heightened colour to create spaces that can transport the viewer away from the everyday. Her influences include Matisse, Hockney, Bonnard, Tal R, Milton Avery and Lois Dodd, artists whose use of colour, simplicity and constructed space resonates with her own interest in windows, gardens, interiors and sunnier climes.

Power has been featured by British Vogue, The Royal Academy of Arts, Soho House, House & Garden, Heals, The London Design Festival, John Lewis, Munthe, Artsy, Delphian Gallery, Print Club London and Well Hung Gallery. She also co-founded Babes In Arms Collective with artist Annie Mackin, supporting artist mothers in the Hastings and St Leonards area.
