Bio

Mandy Payne (born 1964) is a contemporary painter whose work explores themes of social history, urban change, and the politics of place. Focusing on the remnants of post-war social housing, her practice documents buildings and communities under threat, often working on site in locations that are in flux or facing demolition.

Using materials such as concrete, marble dust, and spray paint alongside traditional techniques, Mandy captures the brutal beauty and emotional weight of the built environment. Her work often reflects on the tensions between idealism and reality in modernist architecture, particularly within inner-city housing estates.

Originally trained as a dentist, Mandy retrained in fine art and has quickly gained recognition for her thoughtful and technically distinctive work. She has exhibited widely across the UK, including at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, John Moores Painting Prize, and the New Light Prize Exhibition. Her paintings are held in several public and private collections.
