Oil on Cradled Panel

50 x 40cm

April is a Glasgow-based artist working with colour, space and environments. Using paint as her primary medium, she explores questions surrounding both natural and built environments of Scotland. Drawing upon daily encounters with shifting landscapes, light, and materials, producing immersive surfaces that invite a contemplative, embodied mode of looking. April is a recent graduate of the Glasgow School of Art, (BA(Hons), MLitt, AFHE), where she now teaches/ supports art education.

‘Clear Waterways’, oil on canvas, is part of a series pulling from mapping, memory and colour. Fragmented by Glasgow’s historic canal system, the built environment, boats and homes negotiate the waterways. April explores the relationship between a whole and its parts, drawn out through light, water and shifting connections in the city. Through luminous water, tonal pencil marks and layered oil, she reflects on materiality, emotion and motion of the environment. In repetitive gesture & palette.

This piece is being exhibited in our  Well Hung Painting Prize exhibition. We will dispatch all online orders after the exhibition closes on 22 August.
