Courtney Jinsook Bae (b. 1986) is a Korean-American artist, born in Australia and based in London. Bae paints in oil, depicting raw and expressive portraits and landscapes. She is drawn to the relationship between traumas and resilience, exploring identity formation and human purpose. Her artistic practice is defined by a balance between reality and an internal dialogue which is linked to visceral experiences and emotions. Beyond the canvas, she uses her work as an impetus for cultural movement.
Still Me is a work set within the context of a person living with anxiety day in and day out. It’s about the feeling of being stilled by the many beautiful threads of love that can only be formed so powerfully by human connection. It’s a feeling of standing still in what would normally be this constant feeling of nauseous fear and panic.
