Bio
Woo Jin Joo creates embroidered landscapes that reinterpret the traditional folk painting styles of Korea through the lens of memory, emotion, and personal experience. Drawing on East Asian folklore, mythology, and shamanism, her work blends cultural heritage with contemporary craft. Each piece is made using freehand machine embroidery—a meticulous, intuitive process that results in intricate, one-of-a-kind textile works. Rooted in tradition but shaped by imagination, her landscapes feel both timeless and deeply personal. Currently based in London, Woo Jin graduated from the Royal College of Art in 2021 and now works from Cockpit Arts as the winner of the inaugural Bagri Craft Award. Her work has been exhibited widely across the UK and Europe, and she has received recognition from Arts Council England, the Elephant Trust, A-N Artists, and the Fine Art Textiles Award.
