Well Hung Gallery is pleased to present PROOF,

PROOF brings together the practice of James Green (UK) with a series of large-scale collaborative works created with Monsieur Jamin (FR) during shared studio sessions in the UK and France. While their independent practices remain distinct, both artists work within a field of expressive contemporary painting shaped by instinctive gesture, physical engagement, and a resistance to polished resolution. Their approach is driven by intuitive mark-making and direct material experience, allowing form to emerge through process rather than prescription.

PROOF operates as the artists’ shared collaborative identity, under which their joint works are conceived and signed. Although they do not share a spoken language, they work together through a common visual language, with paint as the primary means of communication. Ideas are tested through action rather than discussion, and understanding develops through instinct, rhythm, and visual harmony.

James Green’s practice is rooted in expressive abstraction, working predominantly on unstretched canvas where form evolves through accumulation, adjustment, and restraint. Within PROOF, this instinctive process expands into a shared surface, where authorship becomes fluid and painting functions as a space of negotiation and exchange. Together, these works foreground painting as a site of encounter, material dialogue, and sustained attention.
