Lucy Pass is a UK based self-taught figurative painter. Her appearance on Portrait Artist of the Year 2019 sparked a departure from traditional portraiture and an intensive evolution of her practice. She now has work in private collections globally and has exhibited beside renowned artists in the UK and internationally. Her work has been shortlisted for numerous awards and won first prize in both The British Art Prize 2023 and The Guildford House Open 2024, leading to her first solo show in 2025

The aim of my work is to capture and give a physical shape to the endless internal soup of human emotion that churns within us all. Half formed faces and fragments hang in space, punctuated by a language of expressive marks, shadows and shapes; a conversation between chaos and clarity, beauty and unease. My paintings are very introspective, but I have an endless fascination with how they are read by others, so I offer them without forced narratives with the aim of sparking inward curiosity.
