Acrylic on Canvas

40 x 40cm

Mark Jackson is an abstract figurative artist based in London. Working with acrylics on canvas, Jackson aims to produce paintings that explore modern masculinity, often – but not exclusively – through a queer lens. Particular themes of interest are bravery, playfulness and vulnerability. Jackson invites the viewer to reframe their understanding of what it is to be male and vulnerable today, to create a space in the work where the modern male is free to inhabit an almost childlike state, removed from toxic expectations.

With this work, Jackson wanted to explore how a male figure could be bold and vulnerable at the same time. The subject is relaxed and unashamed. He welcomes our gaze and is open to our assumptions, confident in his right to be present in the moment. There is an abstract looseness of the work – the brush marks, textures and embraced drips. The subject is poised yet submissive with a candy floss palette that softens his masculine potency.

This piece is being exhibited in our  Well Hung Painting Prize exhibition. We will dispatch all online orders after the exhibition closes on 22 August.
