Sam is a Liverpool‑based painter whose work blends realism with expressive distortion to explore memory, connection, and the relationship between the appearance of a sitter and their personality. Working primarily in oil, he uses colour, structure, and intricate details to reveal the emotional depth of everyday encounters, creating portraits that feel intimate and reveal a deeper insight into his subjects.
Every Piece of You explores the quiet emotional weight carried when remembering someone you love. Through vibrant colours and subtle distortion, the painting reflects how our memory is shaped through several different moments and encounters. It captures the relationship between myself and my Nan, portraying her in the way that I remember her, with her kind, subtle smile and flowery shirts. The distortion created from the gridded structure reflects the memory aspect of the portrait.
