Oil on Canvas

50 x 70cm

I have been painting for over fifty years. In my early twenties, I attended art colleges in Canada. I subsequently moved to Montreal and began exhibiting my work in galleries there. In 1991, I moved to London and continued to run an artist’s studio, working as a full-time artist until 2004. Since then, I have pursued painting as a hobby. These days, I find that my time commitments mean I cannot devote as much time to painting as I would wish.

The work you have asked me to submit represents a breakthrough moment in my practice, as it signalled my move towards a flatter pictorial space. Eynsford is a small village to the south-east of London, and Eagle Heights is a nearby bird sanctuary. The image itself is not particularly important; it simply depicts a number of fields. I started the work in situ but, as is typical of my practice, I took it back to my studio to complete. The entire work took approximately three months to finish.

This piece is being exhibited in our  Well Hung Painting Prize exhibition. We will dispatch all online orders after the exhibition closes on 22 August.
