b. 1971, Venezuela. Based in London since 2003, Fernandez delves into themes that revolve around immigration, notions of territory, identity, and displacement, as she strives to bring attention to the sociopolitical aspects inherent in the found imagery she incorporates into her work.Through a multidisciplinary and self-referential approach she weaves together a reconstructed memory of landscapes and inhabited spaces. She remains dedicated to hand-intensive processes.
Belongs to a series of small, intimate paintings based on a personal photography archive centred on family. This work depicts a young boy dressed in a blue sky suit, posing awkwardly next to a tree, of which we only see the trunk. Great detail has been applied to the central figure, the suit folds, contrasting with the economy of the brush strokes used for the rest of the landscape in the background.
This piece is being exhibited in our Well Hung Painting Prize exhibition. We will dispatch all online orders after the exhibition closes on 22 August.
