In Table for One, the humble pie and mash shop becomes a quiet monument to community
and care. The empty mobility scooter outside hints at absence, yet the scene is filled with
presence – the memory of shared meals, familiar voices, and routines that once anchored
daily life. These places, now disappearing from our high streets, offered more than food;
they offered connection. For those on their own, they were sanctuaries against isolation,
spaces where small gestures of warmth and recognition stitched people into the fabric of the
day. The painting stands as both elegy and celebration: a reminder that togetherness often
begins in the most ordinary of places.

This painting is being exhibited in ‘The Painted City‘ Exhibition and will be ready for collection or delivery after the exhibition ends on 20th December 2025
