My name is Brutalwares and I’m an artist that loves to paint concrete. My work focuses on capturing the beauty of Brutalist Architecture and the often overlooked and derided concrete that makes up these structures. I want to use my work to challenge perceptions and get people talking about what makes Brutalism so special. In doing this, I’ve developed an approach in which I place an intense focus on capturing the intricacies of concrete, creating a unique way of presenting beauty in the mundane.
‘The Cluster’ was born out of a desire to present what I feel to be my native North-Easts most intriguing Brutalist landmark in a fresh and postive new way. It stands overlooked in comparison with its urban surroundings, being dwarved by taller, newer and more “aethetically pleasing” buildings. Working with my signature focus on the intricacies of the concrete texture, I chose to capture it at a time of morning that reveals its hidden depths and history, literally showing it in a new light.
This piece is being exhibited in our Well Hung Painting Prize exhibition. We will dispatch all online orders after the exhibition closes on 22 August.
