My name is Brutalwares and I’m an artist that loves to paint concrete. My work focuses on capturing the beauty of Brutalist Architecture and the often overlooked and derided concrete that makes up these structures. I want to use my work to challenge perceptions and get people talking about what makes Brutalism so special. In doing this, I’ve developed an approach in which I place an intense focus on capturing the intricacies of concrete, creating a unique way of presenting beauty in the mundane.
“The Cluster” was envisioned from a desire to present the often derided style of Brutalist Architecture in a more positive light, finding pockets of appeal within its framework. With a heavy emphasis on the intricacies of concrete texture that rewards a closer inspection, the work ultimately challenges the viewer to discard what they may percieve something as otherwise mundane as concrete to be, and to instead look at how environmental factors such as light and weather can transform it into something beautiful.
This piece is being exhibited in our Well Hung Painting Prize exhibition. We will dispatch all online orders after the exhibition closes on 22 August.
