It is with deep sadness that we share the devastating news that Joseph Loughborough passed away this Monday 16th June, following a sudden and brief battle with cancer.
Joseph was not only an extraordinary artist but also a dear friend to us and to many. His work was raw, instinctive and deeply personal, always created with honesty, passion and defiant individuality. It is heartbreaking that his time was cut short, just as his practice had reached such a powerful point.
At the request of his partner, family and close friends, we will still be holding the opening night of his solo exhibition, These Corroded Poems, this Thursday 19 June, 6–9pm, at Well Hung Gallery. The evening will now serve as both an exhibition opening and a heartfelt tribute to Joseph’s life and work. We understand this news may come as a shock to some and we want to give friends, collectors and supporters the chance to process it in advance.
The exhibition will also be extended throughout the summer, running until 30th August, to give more people the opportunity to see what an incredible and enduring artist he truly was.
Rest in peace dearest Joseph.
