PROOF
James Green × Monsieur Jamin
19 February – 21 March 2026

Well Hung Gallery
239 Hoxton Street, London N1 5LG

Well Hung Gallery is pleased to present PROOF, a two-person exhibition bringing together the individual practices of James Green (UK) and Monsieur Jamin (FR), alongside large-scale collaborative works created during shared studio sessions in the UK and France.

While their individual practices remain distinct, both artists share affinities with Art Brut through instinctive gesture, physical engagement, and a resistance to polished resolution. Their work is driven by intuitive mark-making and direct material experience.

PROOF operates as the artists’ shared collaborative identity, under which their joint works are conceived and signed. Although they do not share a spoken language, they work together through a common visual language, with paint as the primary means of communication. Ideas are tested through action rather than discussion, allowing understanding to emerge through instinct, rhythm, and visual harmony.

Positioned as points of convergence within the exhibition, the collaborative works offer insight into this shared process and demonstrate how two distinct approaches can operate on a single surface without hierarchy or pre-planning. The work is built through action rather than explanation, allowing meaning to emerge through shared intuition.

Bio

Andrew Torr is a contemporary painter whose work explores urban and suburban life through subtle shifts of light, atmosphere, and structure. Born in Yorkshire in 1965, he studied painting under Bernard Cohen at Wimbledon School of Art. This formative period helped shape his approach to composition and tone.

Torr’s practice focuses on nocturnal cityscapes, housing estates, and river scenes. These are often rendered with a quiet stillness that balances realism with a dreamy, introspective quality. His use of glazing and a luminous palette brings a sense of depth and contemplation to even the most ordinary views.

His paintings have received numerous awards and recognition, including the Jackson’s Art Prize 2024, ING Discerning Eye Founder’s Prize (2023), and several Winsor & Newton Prizes at the New English Art Club. He has exhibited at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition and is represented by Oliver Contemporary.
