The piece ‘The Curious Flower’ references the stone sculpture of The Oneto family monument, an angel by sculptor Giulio Monteverde found in the Monumental Cemetery of Stagliano. Carne Griffiths was inspired by this sculpture and wanted to depict the angel as a mother earth or child of earth figure. The piece is about rebirth or the passing on and continuation of life, the flower represents new life from old, nourishing and growth as part of life’s cycle.
